The hospital Oost-Limburg is a large teaching hospital with 850 beds. The multidisciplinary pain centre of the hospital Oost-Limburg is a third line referral centre for the management of chronic pain patients. This centre was appointed as one of the 9 reference centres in Belgium that fulfil the criteria for the multidisciplinary patient evaluation and management, for research and for education. The centre received the comprehensive Excellence in Pain Practice Award from the World Institute of Pain.
Team:
The chairman, of the Multidisciplinary Pain Centre, Jan Van Zundert, MD, PhD obtained his PhD with the thesis on: ‘The use of pulsed radiofrequency in the treatment of chronic pain’ In this thesis he presented animal and clinical research. He published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals and several book chapters. He has a scientific affiliation with the University Medical Centre of Maastricht. He is the editor of the Dutch and English guidelines on “Interventional Pain Management, according to clinical diagnoses”. He is also the section editor of the section “Evidence-based Medicine” in Pain Practice. He is the co-promotor of several PhD students. He was coordinator of a study commissioned by the Federal Knowledge Centre on how LBP is treated in Belgium and what is the cost. He participated in the elaboration of evidence based guidelines on the diagnosis and management of atypical LBP.

The team of the multidisciplinary pain centre of the hospital Oost-Limburg is doing research on: Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor and neuropathic pain. The group of the MPC of the Hospital Oost-Limburg is very active as speakers during international congresses.
Main Tasks:
Contributing samples for retrospective study(WP2), recruiting patients for a prospective study (WP7), collection of samples and clinical diagnostics.
