Organization: Genos Ltd. is a research intensive SME located in Zagreb, Croatia. They are active in glycobiology, molecular diagnostics and forensic genetics and perform contract analysis and method development for numerous companies, hospitals and universities in Europe and overseas. On the basis of the recommendation of the National Science Council, Minister of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia on October 31, 2007 issued a permission allowing Genos to register as research organization. Current number of researchers in Genos is 16 (total number of employees is 26) and nine of them will participate in this project. Team leader in Genos, Prof Gordan Lauc, is a member of the Steering Committee of the European Forum for Glycoscience, member of the Board of the International Glycoconjugate Organization and the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars.
Team: Prof. Gordan Lauc, Prof Vlatka Zoldoš, Dr. Ana Mužinic (b. Kneževic), Dr. Vedrana Škaro, Mislav Novokment, MSc, Maja Pucic, MSc, Jasminka Krištic, MSc, Frano Vuckovic, MSc, Lucija Klaric, MSc and Jerko Stambuk, MSc.
Relevant Competencies and Experience: Glycobiology group in Genos has a strong background in the development and application of glycoanalytical techniques (over 30 publications in the past 5 years).
Among other methods, researchers at Genos routinely perform high throughput HPLC and UPLC analysis of fluorescently labelled glycans. Researchers from Genos coordinated first large population study of the human plasma glycome and subsequently the first study of the IgG glycome. They are also major partner in a large international consortium that performed the first genome wide association study of the human glycome. The group has also successfully applied glycomic analysis in various clinical studies, which resulted in six international patents. Genos is currently partner in FP7 projects GlycoBioM, HighGlycan, IBD-BIOM and MIMOmics.
Main Tasks: Analysis of plasma glycans. Leader: WP4; Participant: WP1, WP6, WP7, WP8.
